Store solar energy or charge during off-peak hours. The SolarEdge battery helps you use your power when it’s most cost-effective.
In case of a power cut, the battery can keep essential appliances running—giving you energy security without disruption.
Control everything in the SolarEdge app, from battery performance to real-time usage data and automated energy routines.
SolarEdge doesn’t just make batteries—it builds connected energy systems where each part is designed to work together flawlessly. The battery, inverter, solar panels and the SolarEdge One App all communicate in real-time, ensuring your energy flows are managed intelligently throughout the day. From when your solar panels begin producing in the morning, to when your battery discharges in the evening, everything is monitored and optimised behind the scenes. There’s no need for extra hardware or third-party energy management tools—SolarEdge handles it all natively.
This makes energy storage not just smarter, but also simpler. And thanks to direct integration with SolarEdge inverters, performance and compatibility are guaranteed.
In the United Kingdom, most homes are connected to the electricity grid via a single-phase supply. This setup supports everyday household usage—from lighting and kitchen appliances to EV chargers and heating—without issue. That’s why for the majority of UK homeowners, the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V is the most suitable option. It’s designed specifically for single-phase homes and works with SolarEdge’s one-phase inverters such as the Home Hub or HD-Wave.
However, some larger properties or households with higher energy demands—such as those running large heat pumps or commercial-grade EV chargers—may have or consider a three-phase connection. In these cases, the SolarEdge Home Battery 48V offers a flexible, modular storage option that can be expanded up to 23 kWh and also supports backup power in the event of an outage.
Upgrading from single-phase to three-phase is technically possible, but it involves an application to your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and may incur substantial costs. For most homeowners, it’s unnecessary. Still, if you’re not sure what connection you have, our team at HomeBattery.co.uk can help you check and advise on the most appropriate solution for your setup.
SolarEdge offers two versions of its Home Battery, each designed for different connection types and usage scenarios. The SolarEdge Home Battery 400V is intended for single-phase households and offers a fixed capacity of 9.7 kWh. It uses NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery cells, which deliver high energy density in a compact format. However, because of their chemical makeup, NMC batteries should only be installed in well-ventilated, non-residential spaces, such as a garage or dedicated utility area. For fire safety reasons, indoor installation in living areas is not recommended in the UK.
In contrast, the SolarEdge Home Battery 48V is designed for three-phase systems and uses LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells. This battery chemistry is known for its excellent thermal stability and long cycle life, making it safer for residential use, including indoor installation. The 48V battery is also modular, meaning you can expand your storage capacity from 4.6 kWh up to 23 kWh depending on your energy needs and available space.
By offering both options, SolarEdge allows you to choose between compact, high-voltage efficiency and the added safety and flexibility of a low-voltage, stackable system.
Controlling your battery is effortless through the SolarEdge One App, which gives you full visibility into how your solar panels, battery, and household energy usage interact. You can view live data, set up charging schedules, track how much you’ve saved, and allow the system to automatically respond to changing electricity tariffs.
The app can also automate other smart devices in your home. If you have a compatible EV charger, hot water system or heat pump, the system can divert excess solar energy to them automatically. This kind of integrated energy management maximises your self-consumption and reduces your dependency on grid power—even during the darkest days of winter.
One of the most powerful features of the SolarEdge system is its compatibility with dynamic electricity contracts and the ability to trade energy on the imbalance market. Your battery can be set to charge when prices are low—typically at night—and discharge when prices rise. Combined with solar production, this greatly increases the financial return on your battery and shortens its payback time.
If your supplier supports it, you can also earn income by allowing your battery to provide flexibility to the grid, helping to balance supply and demand in real time. These features make SolarEdge not only an investment in sustainability, but a potential source of recurring value.
With the right configuration, a SolarEdge battery can keep your most important appliances running during a power cut. Whether it’s your fridge, internet router or lighting in key areas, the system can be set up to deliver backup energy where you need it most. And because the battery management is handled within the SolarEdge ecosystem, switching to backup power is smooth, automated and controlled via the app.
At HomeBattery.co.uk, we specialise in matching the right battery system to the right home. Whether you’re in a compact townhouse with a single-phase supply or a larger property considering three-phase expansion, we help you understand your options clearly and install with confidence.
